2017 Wanderlust Invitational Landscape Exhibition

This upcoming Friday is an exciting day for me. Three of my paintings will be shown in two different shows on the same evening. One is going to the OPA national exhibition (which you can read all about here). The other two are heading to the Howard/Mandville Gallery in Washington for their 2017 Wanderlust Invitational Landscape Exhibition.

"Wanderlust" is a good word to describe the past few years of my life. Last year alone, Taylor and I spent time in over 90 cities in three countries. Seeing new places and experiencing new cultures always inspires me and so much of my work is a reflection of my time in different areas. That's why I was so honored to be invited to this exhibition of American landscape painters.

These are the two paintings I've added to the show:

View From Tivoli 24 x 34: The Italian city of Tivoli is only about an hour away from Rome. We took a quick day trip to visit two of Tivoli's most popular sites: Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa (I actually thought the ruins at Hadrian's Villa were more impressive than the ruins at Pompeii.) Both spots were beautiful. As I told Southwest Art magazine, “It was just one of those perfect days, as though everything was in harmony."

The First Snow 16 x 34: After coming back from Italy and before moving to Charleston, I made a stop in New England. Though I spent some time all over New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine - we stayed in a beach rental near Portsmouth, NH, for a majority of the time. It was a lovely spot as it moved from late summer into fall. This landscape was only a few minutes from the beach house. I loved the dramatic moodiness of this scene: the warm oranges and pinks of the sunset and the cool blues and purples of the freshly fallen snow.

Both of these paintings, along with works from around 50 other painters (you can see all their work here), will be on display Friday night.

Opening Reception: Friday, May 12th from 5-8pm

Howard/Mandville Gallery

120 Park Lane, Suite D

Kirkland, Washington

The exhibition will stay up until June 4th.
